چکیده

Introduction Quantitative BOLD (Blood Oxygen Level Dependent) has been proposed to map brain oxygenation levels using MRI [1]. This approach yields tissular SO2 (oxygen saturation) estimates, i.e. a mean SO2 across the microvascular network in the MRI voxel. To improve the accuracy and the spatial resolution of SO2MR maps, an approach which combines a steady-state Blood Volume fraction (BVf) measurement scheme, B0 and T2 mapping techniques, and a simpler mathematical model has recently been proposed [2]. In this study, we evaluate the proposed acquisition scheme in healthy rats while varying the inspired oxygen fraction and using a complete physiological monitoring.

Is T2* enough to assess oxygenation? Quantitative blood oxygen level-dependent analysis in brain tumor.

PURPOSE To analyze the contribution of the transverse relaxation parameter (T2), macroscopic field inhomogeneities (B0), and blood volume fraction (BVf) to blood oxygen level-dependent (BOLD)-based magnetic resonance (MR) measurements of blood oxygen saturation (SO2) obtained in a brain tumor model. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study was approved by the local committee for animal care and use. ...

Feasibility of QUantitative Imaging of eXtraction of Oxygen and TIssue Consumption (QUIXOTIC) to assess functional changes in venous oxygen saturation during visual stimulus

Introduction: Functional MRI has been extensively used to indirectly measure changes in neuronal activation via the BOLD (blood oxygenation level dependent) effect. While BOLD fMRI provides a relative signal that fluctuates based on changes in venous oxygenation, the absolute value of venous oxygen saturation at baseline and during activation is unknown. Additionally, the BOLD response is highl...

Changes in Arterial Oxygen Tension with Evoked Stimulation in the Rat Somato-sensory Cortex: Implications for Quantitative fMRI

Introduction It is accepted that the BOLD fMRI signal results from changes in the amount and saturation of hemoglobin in a voxel that stem from neurophysiological changes in CBF, CBV and CMRO2 with brain activation. This sensitivity of BOLD fMRI to CMRO2 has been used to quantify the changes in CMRO2 with brain activation (1,2,3). In general, this physiological parameter has been of interest be...

Prospects for quantitative fMRI: Investigating the effects of caffeine on baseline oxygen metabolism and the response to a visual stimulus in humans

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) provides an indirect reflection of neural activity change in the working brain through detection of blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) signal changes. Although widely used to map patterns of brain activation, fMRI has not yet met its potential for clinical and pharmacological studies due to difficulties in quantitatively interpreting the BOLD s...

Simultaneous quantitative assessment of cerebral physiology using respiratory-calibrated MRI and near-infrared spectroscopy in healthy adults

BACKGROUND Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) and functional MRI (fMRI) are non-invasive techniques used to relate activity in different brain regions to certain tasks. Respiratory calibration of the blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) signal, and combined fNIRS-fMRI approaches have been used to quantify physiological subcomponents giving rise to the BOLD signal. A comparison of abso...
